Social Security Disability or regular social security are benefits paid by Social Security when a person has a condition lasting at least a year and the person has been working consistently and has paid social security taxes while working. The amount of benefit you receive depends on your earnings and these are determined by Social Security using a formula. In essence this is your retirement paid to you without reduction because you are disabled and not able to work. Income and assets are not considered under this program.
Supplemental Security Income
Individuals who have a condition and have either no or low income may qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Disability claims.
SSI is a federal program managed by the Social Security Administration. SSI provides disability benefits based on need. The Social Security Administration defines the need of each claimant based on complex federal law. Many times, Claims Specialists erroneously deny benefits to SSI claims. Additionally, SSI is a benefit that pays disability to certain claimants that prove to Social Security that they are disabled.
